<2012년 런던 올림픽_Goldsmiths대학 삼성과 손잡다>

2012년 런던 올림픽을 축하하며, 골드스미스는 삼성과 2012년 런던 올림픽 성화봉송 기회를 잡을 학생들 및 교직원들을 찾기위한 독특한 프로그램을 만드는데 함께 협력하기로 했다. 2012년 올림픽 토치 릴레이 성화봉송자는 골드스미스 대학을 대표하는 교직원들과 학생들로 이루어질 예정이며 이들은 그리스에서 영국에 성화가 도착하는 2012년 5월 18일 란즈엔드(잉글랜드 최서단의 땅 끝 지역) 에서 부터 70일 동안 영국을 가로질러 이동할 계획이다.

성화는 총 66개 지역에 도착할 예정이며, 영국 전체 인구의 95%가 이 역사적인 순간으로부터 약 1시간 떨어져 역사적인 순간을 접하게 된다. 골드스미스의 Patrick Loughrey는 " 이러한 좋은 기회를 통해 삼성과 손잡게 된것은 큰 영광이며 골드스미스의 학생들과 교직원들에게 지역사회에 이바지 할 수 있는 세상에서 단 한 번뿐인 경험을 제공하게 되어 기쁘다."고 전했다. 삼성전자 영국 및 아일랜드 지사 상무 데비스 송은 " 올림픽 후원 파트너로서 영국 대학과 오랜 파트너쉽을 맺어오면서 2012년 런던 올림픽 성화봉송자를 찾기위해 골드스미스와 협력은 매우 자연스러운 일으며 우리는 모든이들을 위한 2012년 런던 올림픽을 만들고자 하는 삼성의 열정을 함께 나누고 싶다" 라고 말했다.

골드스미스 대학은 삼성과 손잡은 총 31개의 영국 교육기관 중 한 곳으로 삼성과 골드스미스가 함께 모든 지원자들을 심사할 예정이며 이 후 10월 말 런던 올림픽 위원회에 심사된 지원자들을 지명할 것이다. 또한 삼성은 2012년 런던 올림픽이 영구적인 유산으로써의 가치를 오랫동안 지속시키고 학생들의 실력향상을 위한 편의성 그리고 미래 투자를 위한 프로그램 개발을 위해 골드스미스와 새로운 관계를 형성려는 것을 목표로 두고 있다.

이 프로그램은 2011년 12월 올림픽 성화봉송자로 선택되어 31개의 교육기관에 의한 프로그램에 참가한 학생들과 교직원들의 공로를 인정하는 올림픽 수여식을 끝으로 막을 내릴 예정이다.

Worldwide Olympic Partner Samsung teams up with Goldsmiths in search of heroes who go the extra mile

Goldsmiths, University of London has teamed up with Samsung to find inspiring students and staff members who will be given a chance to carry the Olympic Flame in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

To celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games, Goldsmiths will work with Samsung to create a unique Torchbearer nomination programme that will reflect the core values of the Olympic movement and the rich heritage of the institution.

Three Torchbearers will be selected from staff and students to represent the institution in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. These representatives will be part of the 8,000 Torchbearers who will pass on the Olympic Flame when it arrives in Land's End on 18 May 2012 to start its 70 day journey across the UK. The flame will reach 66 communities and 95 per cent of the UK population will be roughly an hour away from the historic moment.

Patrick Loughrey, Warden at Goldsmiths said: "It is a great privilege that Samsung has approached us with such a tremendous opportunity. We are absolutely delighted that we can offer our students and staff a once-in-a-lifetime experience in recognition of their hard work and contribution to the community. In the coming weeks, we will be putting this programme to good use and attributing the places to students and staff who have been noted by their colleagues and peers for their outstanding commitment to Goldsmiths and its local community."

David Song, Managing Director, UK&I, Samsung Electronics Ltd said: "Building upon our long term partnership with the higher education sector in UK, and as an Olympic Torch Relay Presenting Partner, it was only natural to work with Goldsmiths to find London 2012 Torchbearers. We are keen to share Samsung's passion for the Olympics Games with students and trust the university will select those that always go the extra mile, to make London 2012 an Olympic Games for everyone."

Goldsmiths is one of 31 educational establishments in the UK, approached by Samsung. All the applications will be co-judged by Samsung and Goldsmiths and put forward to the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) by the end of October.

Samsung aims to build a new relationship with Goldsmiths in order to further support its future investment programmes, facilitate the development of student skills and capabilities over the long term as a permanent legacy of London 2012 Olympic Games.

The programme will culminate in an Awards Ceremony in December 2011 to recognise all students and staff who have participated in the programme from all 31 educational establishments and have been selected as London 2012 Torchbearers.
